Bespoke lighting: when should you order a custom size?
At Spiridon Deco, every light is made after you order it. In other words, no piece exists before your order is placed. This approach has a direct consequence that few customers realise at first: the sizes in our catalogue — T1, T2, T3 — are not limits. They are starting points.
If your space has unusual dimensions, specific architectural constraints, or if you are fitting out several hotel rooms in one unique format, we can make exactly what you need. This article explains when a custom size is the right choice, what can actually be changed, and how the process works from start to finish.
Made to order: every piece is already bespoke by nature
How we produce each light
Most lighting brands work from stock: they produce batches, store them, and ship when an order arrives. At Spiridon Deco, however, there is no stock. No piece is made in advance. Instead, every light is produced after the order is received, assembled by hand in our workshop.
This approach — known as made to order — is not a constraint. In fact, it is precisely what allows us to adapt dimensions from the very start, without adding a “customisation fee” at the end of the process. As a result, when you order a T2, we make a T2. When you need a Ø 42 cm due to an existing ceiling rose or a space constraint, we make a Ø 42 cm. The production logic is exactly the same in both cases.
What this means for your project
In practice, the catalogue sizes represent the most common requests — not the only options available. Moreover, because each piece starts from scratch, adapting a dimension adds no extra complexity to the process. The only real difference is that a larger format uses more material and more assembly time, which is reflected in the price.
Standard lead time: 3 to 4 weeks — the same for catalogue sizes and custom sizes alike. However, for very large formats (above T3 or exceptional dimensions), assembly time increases slightly. You will always be informed of the exact lead time before placing your order.
All made-to-order pieces are non-refundable: the light is made for you, to your exact specifications. That is the commitment on both sides.
Five situations where a bespoke lighting size is the right answer
A catalogue size works well for most standard residential projects. However, there are five common situations where standard dimensions simply do not work — and where bespoke lighting becomes the only serious solution.
Ceilings above 4 m create a visual void that a T2 (Ø 50 cm) or T3 (Ø 70 cm) simply cannot fill. In these spaces, a wider diameter or a very long cable is needed to occupy the vertical volume without the light appearing lost in mid-air.
In renovation projects, the electrical supply point is often fixed. If the rose sits close to a wall or within a tight space, a standard size may feel off-balance. A slightly smaller diameter or a reduced height solves the issue without any structural work.
Fitting out 20 bedrooms, a restaurant and a lobby with lights from the same family — but in different sizes — is a classic bespoke scenario. We can produce several pieces from the same collection in distinct formats, maintaining a consistent visual identity throughout the property.
A ceiling dropped to 2.30 m or 2.20 m makes a 20 cm deep fitting feel overpowering. Reducing the height of the light slightly — without changing the diameter or the visual design — keeps the impact while respecting safety clearances.
A grand entrance hall, a fine dining restaurant or a five-star hotel suite may call for a format beyond T3 (Ø above 70 cm). At this scale, the light becomes an architectural installation in its own right. These projects are quoted on an individual basis.
What can be changed — and what stays the same
Bespoke lighting at Spiridon Deco does not mean everything is possible without limits. Each collection follows its own material and structural logic. Here, therefore, is a clear breakdown of what can be adapted and what cannot.
- Diameter — larger or smaller than the catalogue size, within the structural limits of the collection
- Height — a flatter profile for a low ceiling, or a taller one for a large volume
- Cable length — from 50 cm to several metres, depending on ceiling height
- Number of light sources — adjusted to the area and desired brightness
- Finish combinations — some collections accept Mixed finishes not listed in the standard catalogue
- Fixing type — conversion from pendant to flush mount is possible on most collections
- The main material — crystals, pearls, mirror tiles, alabaster: this is the identity of the collection and does not change
- The base structure — hemisphere, cascade, radial: the core geometry stays the same
- Available finishes — each collection has its own set of options
- Electrical specification — G9 MAX 40W bulbs, 220–240V: fixed by the design and CE certification
The bespoke lighting process, step by step
Here is how a custom order works at Spiridon Deco — from the first contact through to delivery and installation in your space.
From first contact to your personalised quote
You describe your project and your constraints
Send an email to info@spiridondeco.com or use the contact form. Please include: the collection or model you have in mind, the dimensions you need, the ceiling height, and a brief description of the project — residential, hotel, restaurant, and so on. The more detail you provide at this stage, the faster we can give you a useful answer.
We confirm what is possible
We review your constraints and then confirm whether the requested dimensions can be produced in your chosen collection, what adaptations are possible, and whether a standard catalogue size might already meet your needs. There is no charge at this stage.
A price based on your exact format
The price of a bespoke light depends on the final dimensions: a larger diameter means more material and more assembly time. As a result, the pricing follows the same progression as our catalogue formats — from T1 (Ø 30 cm) to T3 (Ø 70 cm) — beyond which a specific quote is prepared. Furthermore, for contract projects involving multiple pieces, trade pricing is available on request.
From production to delivery
You approve the quote — production begins
Once we receive your approval and deposit, your order enters production. From this point, the order is firm: the piece is made to your exact specifications and therefore cannot be modified or returned.
Hand assembly in our workshop
Each element is assembled by hand onto the metal frame: crystals, pearls, glass tiles or glass petals, depending on the collection. For large custom formats, the lead time may extend to 5 or 6 weeks. You will always be informed of the exact timeline in your quote.
Reinforced packaging, delivery across Europe
Handcrafted glass lights are fragile pieces. Consequently, every order is packed individually with care suited to its size and weight. We deliver across Belgium and throughout Europe. For contract projects involving several packages, logistics are arranged in coordination with your site schedule.
Professional and contract projects
Interior designers, decorators and project managers working on hotels or restaurants have specific needs that a standard sales process does not always cover well. In addition, large projects often involve several spaces with different requirements. Here, therefore, is what we offer for professional orders.
What we provide for trade clients
| Need | What we offer |
|---|---|
| Multi-space consistency | Same collection, different sizes for each room — bedrooms, corridors, restaurant, lobby — while maintaining a unified visual identity throughout the property. |
| Multiple units | Production of several identical pieces (for example, to fit out 20 rooms with the same model). Trade pricing on request — contact us for any project of 5 pieces or more. |
| Site schedule | Planned delivery to fit your project timeline. We adapt production and shipping to the constraints of your on-site trades. |
| Technical specification | Technical sheets available by collection and by size. CE documentation, weight, exact dimensions and fixing type — everything your design office needs to integrate the lights into the plans. |
| Non-catalogue combinations | Some projects call for a Mixed finish or an unusual material combination. These requests are reviewed case by case, following a preliminary discussion with our workshop. |
For any professional or hospitality project, the starting point is the same: an email to info@spiridondeco.com with a description of your project. We will get back to you within 48 hours with an initial answer on feasibility and next steps.
What to prepare before getting in touch
Above all, the more precise your request from the start, the faster and more useful our response will be. Here is the information that speeds up the process most:
- The collection or model you have in mind — or, if you are unsure, a description of the look and feel you want: material, atmosphere, style of the space.
- The exact ceiling height — in cm, measured at the fixing point. For a pendant light, also specify the minimum clearance you need below the bottom of the fitting.
- The room dimensions — floor area and proportions. A Ø 70 cm light in a 9 m² kitchen creates a very different effect to the same size in a 40 m² living room.
- The project context — residential, hotel, restaurant, prestige space. Moreover, tell us whether it is a renovation (with existing constraints) or a new build.
- Your preferred delivery date — if your project has a set timeline, mention it in your first message. We can then confirm whether our lead time is compatible with your schedule.
